Meet Henry

Not Available

Henry is a pure bred Dogue De Bordeaux who has fallen on hard times in the past. After several months of care Henry is now available for adoption to the right home. Even though Henry has not had the best start to life he is a wonderfully loving boy who will make a very special friend to his new owner. He is extremely tolerant of other dogs and would be suited to a home with another dog or preferably as an only dog so that he may enjoy the attention he really deserves. Henry can become excited and is not suited to a home with young children.

Health wise Henry is recovering well thanks to the genorosity of his sponsors. Henry has had several months of treatment for severe demodectic mange. This treatment has been successful but Henry's new owners will need to be aware that he will continue to require ongoing care. We strongly suggest that his new owners research demodectic mange and understand that if placed in a stressful environment the possibility exists that this will flare up again. For this reason it is imperative that his new family ensure that Henry is given the love and attention that he needs to stay healthy. The possibility does exist that Henry will require further medical attention in the future and his new owners will need to ensure that this is carried out immediately.

To ensure that Henry is placed into the right home for a large breed such as this applications will be taken from potential new homes. Interviews will then be conducted to ensure that Henry is placed into a new home that will remain his forever home for the entirety of his life. Please note that due to our desire to watch Henry's progress he will not be available for interstate adoption.

Update 21/7/05: Henry went to the vet today and they are giving him a new treatment which involves a weekly injection. Plus more antibiotics and a cream for his eyes. He has put on 4 kilos so still quite a way to go with the weight,. They are all in love with him at the vets and just cannot beleive how happy and bouncy he is now. He is quite the social boy! Henry is an approximately 5 year old Dogue De Bordeaux. He was rescued by our foster carer from the pound in an emaciated condition and his skin and coat were severely affected by mange. Henry spent two nights receiving top medical treatment from Wyong Veterinary Hospital after his release from the pund and will be needing long term care in order to bring him to full health and vitality. Whilst in the hospital he quickly charmed the vet nurses with his loving nature. Treatment for Henry consists of 3 meals a day to increase his weight and a dedicated and consistent regime in treating his mange. Despite the horrific condition that he has been kept in. Henry is truly a loving boy and trusts his foster carers to assist his return to good health. He quite happily stands in the bath for his twice weklly baths and patiently allows his foster carer to remove the mucus that is congesting his eyes each morning. In care for only a week Henry is already showing some remarkable responses to treatment and will be a truly magnificent man when fully recovered
