Meet Bernard

Hi all, I’m Bernard - an appropriate name don’t you think? I was dumped on a fire trail just over a month ago and have been terrified ever since. No one knows my history but me, but I’m slowly coming out of my bed and wandering around my foster carer’s yard and house. When I was picked up from the Pound, my carer was told I had no personality. That probably was right at the time because I was suffering from a chest infection which the Vet picked up straight away. I’m over that now, about to lose my boy bits (whatever that means) and getting ready to move on to a permanent home. I am still scared of humans; I don’t run away now, I just cower in my bed and wait for a pat. I don’t know how to walk on a lead at the moment, so I’m carried everywhere if I need to go in the car. I am slowly getting used to receiving treats by hand but as soon as I’m used to it, I get shy again and have to learn how to do it all over. I have a good appetite and it’s not unusual for the sound of the steel plate to travel along the tiled floor for a few minutes after I’ve finished as I don’t want to waste anything. In fact, I clean up my fellow furfriends’ plates too. Whilst I don’t socialise with my housemates, I met a visiting 2 year old Spitzoodle last week. We played chasings and we all had a great time. My carer hadn’t seen me run, only walk so she knows there’s nothing standing in my way to having some fun times with another canine. I currently weigh 10kgs but as I learn how to walk and get more exercise, my figure will become more shapely.
I seem to be awake at any time of the night when my carer covers me up with a blanket and am getting used to her carrying me and sitting next to me on the lounge, if only for a short period of time.
I will be ready for adoption around 24th August at which time a meet and greet would be wonderful. If you’re ready for a great furfriend, please send my carer an expression of interest outlining the lifestyle you can offer me. I am a special boy and will need a special future. Bye for now, love Bernie xx
